
Stop Letting Your Heaters Trash Your Wafers
In a Class 100 cleanroom, one tiny speck of dust is all it takes to scrap an entire batch. It’s a nightmare. Most standard heaters are part of the problem—they outgas or shed microscopic bits of junk right where you don’t want it. That’s why we use high-purity synthetic quartz IR lamps. They use radiative heat, meaning there’s no forced air blowing contaminants all over your substrates. It’s just clean, direct heat.
The Stuff It’s Made Of
We use fused silica with incredibly low impurity levels. Why? Because it stops the quartz tube from “blooming” or breaking down when things get hot. Unlike those metal-clad heaters that oxidize and flake off over time, quartz just stays put. We also use a vacuum-sealed halogen cycle to keep the filament centered. It makes the lamps last much longer, so you aren’t constantly cracking open your cleanroom to swap out tubes every few weeks. That’s one less chance for a breach.
Making It Work
These lamps heat up and cool down fast. You get a ton of heat in a very small space. Since it’s radiation, the heat goes straight into the workpiece, which keeps your other fab equipment from overheating. You can plug these right into your current control loops using precision SCRs to keep your temperatures locked in. One quick tip: if you’re cranking up the wattage to speed up your drying, keep an eye on your lamp holders. All that energy creates a lot of soak. Just make sure your mounting brackets can handle the heat so they don’t warp on you.
Fitting It Into Your Fab
If you’re still clinging to an old convection system, these are a great swap. Switching to IR means you can ditch the HEPA-filtered blowers in the heating zone. Your piping gets simpler, you have fewer parts that can fail in your vacuum chamber, and your throughput speeds up. It’s just a cleaner way to work.
