
Stop Letting Water Kill Your Infrared Heaters
If you’ve ever run a shop or a factory, you know the deal: water and mist are basically poison for infrared heating elements. One bad splash or a bit of creeping humidity gets inside the housing, and suddenly you’ve got a short circuit or rusted-out contacts. It’s a nightmare. That’s exactly why we built our table heaters to an IP55 standard.
What does IP55 actually mean for you?
In plain English? It means your gear won’t die just because things get messy. We’ve sealed the chassis and slapped gaskets on every single joint. Whether it’s a random spray of water or a damp environment, the electrical terminals stay dry. You won’t deal with those annoying “burn outs” that happen to cheap, non-rated heaters the second they’re placed near a steam vent or a wash-down station.
Keeping the heat where it belongs
Here’s the thing about moisture: it doesn’t just cause electrical shorts. It creates this thin, gross film on the heating element that blocks the infrared rays from actually doing their job. We fixed this by tweaking the shape of the housing. It’s designed to shed water and fight off fogging. By keeping that quartz tube bone-dry, the heat stays consistent and powerful. We also reinforced the seals where the wires enter the unit. If you’re wiring these up in a humid shop, you don’t have to worry about moisture “wicking” its way into the control box. It just stays out.
The honest trade-off
Now, I want to be straight with you. There is a catch. Because we’ve sealed this thing up tight to keep the water out, it doesn’t breathe as well as an open-frame heater. The inside gets hot—fast. When you’re installing these,**give them some room to breathe.**Make sure there’s plenty of clearance for the external heat sink to do its thing. If you jam them into a tiny, airtight corner, you’re probably going to trip the thermal cut-off. It’s a simple trade: you lose a bit of airflow, but you get a heater that can actually take a beating and last for years. For most of us, that’s a trade we’re happy to make.
