Most bathroom infrared heaters use short-wave radiation to get you warm the second you flip the switch. It’s great for those freezing winter mornings, but there’s a catch: the light. If a lamp pumps out too much high-intensity blue light or a harsh glare, it can be tough on the eyes. It’s especially risky for babies, whose eyes are still developing and can’t handle that kind of stress.
Fixing the “Blinding” Problem
We don’t just use a raw quartz tube and call it a day. That would be like staring into a spotlight. Instead, we use doped quartz or a special interference coating. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the heater. It blocks those harsh, blinding peaks of light but lets the heat sail right through. You still get that cozy, dense warmth to dry out a damp room, but instead of a clinical white glare, you get a much softer, warmer glow.
Keeping Things Cool (Where it Matters)
To keep the heat efficient, these elements have to get incredibly hot. We use high-purity quartz glass because it won’t warp or freak out under that kind of thermal pressure. We also pair the lamp with a reflector that pushes the heat straight down, so you aren’t wasting energy heating the ceiling. But here’s the tricky part: you can’t just jam a high-wattage lamp into a tiny box. If the ventilation isn’t exactly right, you’ll end up melting the plastic casing. That’s why we’re obsessive about the gap between the tube and the reflector. It stops hotspots from forming and keeps everything safe.
The Trade-off
Here is the honest truth: when you filter out those harsh wavelengths to protect your eyes, you lose some brightness. These lamps won’t light up your room like a standard halogen bulb.
