Let’s be honest: traditional convection ovens are space hogs. They spend all their time heating up the air around the part before the part actually gets hot. If you’re working in a tight spray booth, that’s just wasted real estate. We do things differently. Instead of those bulky tunnels, we use customized shortwave infrared (IR) radiators. Here’s the trick: the heat goes straight into the coating molecules, skipping the air entirely. Because of that, you can usually chop your drying tunnel length in half.Half the size, same result.
How the Heat Actually Works
We don’t do “gentle” heat here. We use high-wattage quartz elements to pack a massive amount of energy into a tiny area. This shortwave IR sinks into the coating fast, triggering that chemical cross-linking in seconds. It’s a quick ramp-up. Your parts move through the line faster, and you aren’t standing around waiting for the oven to “catch up.”
Fitting it Into Your Shop
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. We build these units to fit the exact dimensions of your booth. Plus, we use high-purity quartz tubes with special coatings. This makes sure the energy hits the steel and the paint—not the walls of your tunnel. We also use heavy-duty industrial connectors, so you don’t have to worry about lamps shaking loose when the conveyor starts humming. If you’ve got old, clunky heating banks, these just drop right in.
The Trade-off (Because Nothing is Magic)
Now, there is a catch. When you dump this much energy into a small space, things get hot. Fast. If your exhaust fans can’t pull that ambient heat out of the booth, you’re going to have problems. We’re talking about overheating your conveyor bearings or getting that annoying “orange peel” texture on your finish because the surface flashed too quickly. To keep things under control, we suggest a PID controller with a thermocouple mounted right on the steel. It keeps a close eye on the actual temperature of the part. That way, you get the shortest tunnel possible without accidentally scorching your coating.
